10 Million
The National Institutes of Health, have awarded $10 Million dollars, to my school MSU
From what I understand the monies will be used for Biomedical Studies across disciplines, involving but not limited to Histology, Cytology, Epidemiology, Computer Sciences and Biology.
There is discussion regarding the founding of a health center, located on MSUs campus, whose aim would be to improve health for citizens of Baltimore, and the State of Maryland. That is a lofty, but worthwhile mission.
The procurement of this award, required the submission of a detailed proxy, which took one year to formulate and complete.
NPR noted that MSU was awarded an accredited Biomedical degree program in 2000.
I am pleased and encouraged to learn that such support is available, as it fosters an environment of increased opportunity for students considering career paths involving these varied disciplines; as well as sends a message to the professional community that mutually beneficial relationships exist and further, that they are worth seeking, creating, developing and maintaining at minority institutions of higher learning.
I see this as a tremendous win for Baltimore City and County, the State of Maryland present and future MSU scholars, the staff at MSU, and all HBCUs.
